Establishment of a competence center for the additive manufacturing of inorganic-non-metallic materials

The project will initially serve to develop an infrastructure for the additive manufacturing of inorganic-non-metallic materials, which will lead to the first competence center for additive manufacturing of this group of materials in Rhineland-Palatinate. Over three years, the three project partners – the Research Institute for Inorganic Materials -Glas/Keramik- GmbH, Koblenz University of Applied Sciences and the University of Koblenz-Landau – are pooling their proven expertise in dealing with non-metallic-inorganic and, in particular, ceramic materials in order to better adapt existing printing processes to the large number of material types. The aim is to identify economical processes that overcome the obstacles of the state of the art. The individual manufacturing processes to be applied to the material must be considered holistically, taking into account the raw materials, binder groups and sintering as well as the printing processes. This is the only way to provide the industry with a technology that is economical and therefore future-oriented. The project is funded by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and the state of Rhineland-Palatinate as part of the development and expansion of technology-oriented fields of competence (P1-SZ2-3).
